Disaster Management – Command, Communication, Planning, Capturing.
“uniti” is a software application that was developed by Umoya at the request of the Western Cape Provincial Disaster Management Centre. Umoya Networks had been providing a disaster tolerant satellite network to the provincial government that linked district and local municipalities since 2005. Disaster Management needed a simple, easy to use collaboration tool which enabled authorities to communicate across organizational boundaries.
After deploying uniti in the Western Cape, the National Disaster Management Centre appointed Umoya to provide uniti to assist with managing operational reporting and communication over the FIFA Soccer World Cup in 2010. Umoya was able to deploy uniti nationally and train 600 users within six weeks just prior to the start of the World Cup. The application was a great success and has subsequently been adapted for use by the fire department in Worcester as their operational software, now called FireWeb.
